The second edition of Hong Kong’s latest contemporary art fair, Art Central, returned to the city’s Central Harbourfront, gathering more than 100 galleries hailing from 21 countries—75 percent of which are from greater Asia—inside its specially-designed temporary tent structure. Large-scale installations, under the “Projects” sector, are interspersed between the general gallery booths, while in “Rise” one can find galleries under six years old presenting the works of emerging artists. New this year is “Media X Mumm,” a showcase of five new media art installations selected by the fair organizers and “Screen x Experimenta,” a roundup of narrative and experimental films curated by Gina Wong. The tents were put to the test when weather conditions were far from ideal during opening night; nonetheless, the fair successfully stayed (mostly) dry and no artworks appeared to have been harmed by the heavy downpour. Here’s a look around this year’s Art Central.
