nüue

by Amy Fan

Typography design by AMY FAN, based on the name of a newborn tapir at the Taipei Zoo.

Taipei Zoo held a vote on Facebook last month to name a newborn female tapir. The event, which began on August 31 and ended on September 3, attracted more than 20 million voters, including corporations, local artists, and public figures. The majority voted for the name “Mo hua dou,” which is homophonic with “literally can’t” in Taiwanese.

“Nüue” is a biweekly design project by ArtAsiaPacific’s designer, Amy Fan. “Nüue” is a made-up word that means “to create something new.”
