On February 23, New York-based non-profit organization Artis, dedicated to promoting contemporary art from Israel, announced that it has received an anonymous donation of USD 1 million.
The gift will increase the annual budget of Artis—which runs grant and public programs, research trips and career development—allowing the organization to expand and establish a new base in Tel Aviv. As part of their public programs, Artis commissions works and also conducts talks and performances. Their latest co-commission is multidisciplinary collective Exterritory’s video Image Blockade (2015), which is currently showing at the 2015 New Museum Triennial in New York.
As part of developing these main initiatives, the donation will also help increase the funds awarded in Artis’s annual grant program to USD 250,000, which supports international artists, curators and non-profit organizations across four categories: exhibitions; projects; travel and research; and scholarship.
