Singapore’s Element Art Space is moving to a new location in the Raffles Hotel Arcade in central district. The gallery was founded under the mentorship of Chua Soobin, the renowned Singapore-born photographer who helped introduce Chinese contemporary art to the region by establishing Soobin Art Gallery in 1990.
In 2009 Soobin opened S. Bin Art Plus, which changed its name to Element Art Space in 2011. His vision for Element still encompasses contemporary Chinese work, but the gallery also represents such modern and contemporary Southeast Asian artists as Affandi, FX Harsono, Cheong Soo Pieng and Lee Man Fong.
Currently located in the ground floor atrium of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts Building, which was the former site of the Old Hill Street Police Station, Element will open in the Raffles Hotel Arcade on March 12. The move will ensure greater visibility as well as a presence alongside such leading galleries as Chan Hampe Galleries, Nikei Fine Art and Artesan.
