International auction house Bonhams has appointed Wang Zineng as head of Modern and Contemporary Art, Asia. Wang will officially take up the role September 1, and will be based in Hong Kong.
Wang has been a Bonhams consultant since 2017, and brings to the auction house over ten years of experience in the art world. Before founding Art Agenda, SEA—a curatorial and market advisory firm—in 2016, he served at Christie’s as the vice president and senior specialist for Southeast Asian art, beginning in 2011. In the 2000s, he was an independent curator for institutions and galleries in Singapore.
Edward Wilkinson, executive director of Bonhams Asia, welcomes Wang, saying he joins a “strong and established team of Modern and Contemporary Art specialists, which now spans backgrounds in most of the key markets in the region: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Southeast Asia. He will play an integral role in advancing our strategies in the region.”
Wang’s appointment is part of the relaunch of Bonhams’ global team for the Modern and Contemporary Art category. In June, Giacomo Balsamo was appointed international director of Post-War and Contemporary Art. In 2018, Muys Snijders was named head of the category for the United States.
