On August 26, John Denton, chair of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) in Melbourne, announced the appointment of Claire Richardson as the institution’s new executive director.
Richardson currently oversees the Visual Arts Program at the City of Stonnington. Prior to that, she served as the exhibitions manager at the TarraWarra Museum of Art, and senior exhibition coordinator and acting exhibitions manager at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Richardson also recently worked on the Australian Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale as exhibition team leader at the Australia Council for the Arts.
ACCA artistic director and CEO Max Delany commented on Richardson’s appointment: “Claire has outstanding experience delivering major international and national exhibitions and advancing operational and organisational goals . . . Claire takes the managerial helm as we work towards expanding our impact in artistic programming, education and community engagement, and continuing the vital role ACCA plays within Australia’s visual arts ecology.”
Richardson called the appointment a “true privilege,” remarking: “I have long appreciated and admired ACCA’s innovation, exceptional exhibition and educational programming and unwavering support of artists, curators, arts administrators and enthusiasts.”
Richardson will commence her tenure at the ACCA in October. She succeeds Linda Mickleborough, who was elected to the position in 2016 and departed the ACCA this April to travel and pursue consultancy work.
